Tampa Bay, Florida

We spent most of the day kayaking through Tampa Bay. The weather was nice and sunny, with the wind blowing out of the south. We could see and hear the hustle and bustle of the city of Tampa all around. Passing under several large bridges with cars and trucks whizzing across really reminded me that we were close to the city. We made our way around a large point where saw huge freighters moving in and out. Later in the day, we saw a sign on a post in the water. After paddling close enough to read it, we kept our distance. The sign said "Prohibited Area, Danger, Firing Range, Do Not Enter". There is a large prohibited area off shore from the air force base. No firing happened in the firing range as we went by. We did see several jets take off and fly overhead. We added a few miles to our route and paddled far away from shore in order to stay outside of this area.

Dave paddles past one of the many signs around the prohibited area.

Distance traveled: 27 miles by kayak
